In 2020, the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! team faced their biggest challenge in the show’s history. There was a global pandemic and Australia was off the cards due to travel restrictions. I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! needed a new location closer to home and finding the right place would prove a tall order because COVID safety was paramount and the crew would have to work with restrictions in place.

They decided that an abandoned, isolated castle that looked as if it were being swallowed up by nature would be perfect. The location team contacted over 70 possible locations in the UK and Ireland before drawing up a shortlist of 30, but the minute they laid eyes on Gwrych Castle, they knew they’d found a new star of the show.
